Hier, le 14 novembre 2021, le festival EnergaCamerimage, et à travers lui toute notre profession, a rendu hommage à la directrice de la photographie Halyna Hutchins, tuée accidentellement par arme à feu le 21 octobre dernier.

À 18h ce dimanche, une centaine de personnes s’étaient réunies dans la salle de projection du CKK Jordanki, épicentre du festival EnergaCamerimage autour de Kazik Suwała, directeur du festival, d’Amy Vincent, première vice président de l’American Society of Cinematographers, d’Alice Brooks et de plusieurs autres membres de l’ASC.

 

C’est lors de cet émouvant hommage que Stephen Lighthill, président de l’American Society of Cinematographers, a annoncé qu’Halyna Hutchins serait désormais admise comme membre honoraire de l’ASC, et que son nom sera inscrit dans la liste des membres de l’American Cinematorapher magazine aussi longtemps que celui-ci sera publié.

Il était important d’être présent à ce mémorial, tant cette tragédie a touché notre profession, et nous étions plusieurs membres de l’Union des Chefs Opérateurs à y assister.

Le court-métrage « Hidden » a été projeté à l’issue de ce moment de partage. Réalisé par Farzad Ostovarzadech et éclairé par Halyna Hutchins, il fut présenté initialement en compétition au Camerimage 2016. « Hidden » avait été l’occasion pour le public de l’époque de découvrir le talent de cette jeune directrice de la photographie qu’était Halyna Hutchins.

Yesterday, November 14, 2021, the EnergaCamerimage festival, and through it, our entire profession, paid tribute to cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was accidentally killed by gunfire on October 21.

At 6 pm on Sunday, about 100 people had gathered in the screening room of CKK Jordanki, the epicenter of the EnergaCamerimage festival around Kazik Suwała, Festival director, Amy Vincent, first Vice President of the American Society of Cinematographers, Alice Brooks and several other CSA members.

During this moving tribute, Stephen Lighthill, President of the American Society of Cinematographers, announced that Halyna Hutchins would now be admitted as an honorary member of the ASC, and that her name would be listed in the American Cinematographer magazine as long as it is published.

It was important to be part of this memorial, as this tragedy has affected our profession, and several members of the Union des Chefs Opérateurs were attending the event.

At the end of this special time of sharing, the short film « Hidden » was screened. Directed by Farzad Ostovarzadech and lit by Halyna Hutchins, it was initially featured in competition at Camerimage 2016. « Hidden » had been an early opportunity for the audience at the time to discover the talent of Halyna Hutchins.
